楽器店主催のバンドコンテストに出る。
これを書いている時点では、前日の深夜。外は雨降りの六兼屋。明日の午後、甲府の島村楽器が主催するバンドコンテストに出るのだった。出場は7組の予定、一組2曲のコピーバンドばかり。
家族バンド。メンバーは、妻bibi＝ドラム、娘upolu＝ベース、僕paco＝エレキギターのスリーピース。ボーカルは1曲は妻が、もう1曲は娘がとる。楽器からいえば、ベースもドラムも同時にボーカルという例は少ないし、ギターの僕が歌ほうが自然なのだが、僕はエレキがまだ経験不足で、同時に歌うのはちょっとつらいし、歌の練習も足りないので、ギターのみの主演。
曲は、チャットモンチー「シャングリラ」、相対性理論「ミスパラレルワールド」。
それぞれ個人で楽譜を読み解いたり、習ったりしてある程度弾けるところまで来てから、六兼屋のスタジオで毎晩1時間ずつ合わせの練習をして、10日ぐらいか。なんとか形になってきた。
と言ってもそれぞれ、まったく間違えずには1回も弾けてない、ぐらいのレベルで、アマチュアのヘタバンドレベルなのだが、いちおう聞いてくれる人もいるので、耳を塞ぎたくならない程度には弾けるようにと必死にやってきた。
音楽を演奏するというのは、いろいろな意味でむずかしい。
まず、うまく、うまくなりたい、と思う。うまく弾きたい、歌いたいと思う。でも、楽器も歌も、かんたんにはできるようにはならない。自分の腕前で必ず弾けるようなものなら、、退屈であんまりやる気にならない。やっぱり挑戦したい。でもうまく弾けないし、やってみると、もっとうまく弾きたくなる。修行をしているような状態になり、目がつり上がり、できないところばかりが気になり出す。自分の演奏にばかり目が行き、バンドとしての音作りに目が行かない、ことにもなる。
でも、音楽は「楽」であり、楽しまないと意味がない。楽しむとは、聞く人が？ やる僕たちが？ 弾く人が楽しんでいないと、聞く人は緊張が伝わって楽しくなれない。でも弾く人だけが乗っていても、音が悪ければ、聞く人にとってはノイズに過ぎない。楽しみたい、楽しくさせたい。でも、両者が一致する点はなかなか遠い。
うまくなりたいし、楽しみたい。楽しむためには、うまくならなければならない。うまくなくてもたのしんでいればいいの？ ねらい感が定まらない。僕らが入門アマチュアバンドだとわかって聞いている場合と、プロだと思って聞く場合では、やはり評価も楽しみ方も変る。よって、楽しい、楽しませるのバランス点はひとつではない。
だから、自分が気持ちよく、楽しく演奏することはやはり大事。でも、うまく弾くこともやはり大事。この矛盾から、なかなか抜け出られない。
もうひとつは、うまくなったからといって、それが本番で出せるとは限らない。というか、たいていはでない。今の実力でベストが100だとすれば、本番で確実に出せるのはせいぜい30ぐらい。運がよくて60ぐらいだろうか。やってみるとがっかりする。やり気がそがれる。でもやりたい。
今日の僕の仕上がりで、50％しか実力が出せなければ、どんなひどい演奏になるんだろう。それで楽しめるんだろうか。まあいいや、やってみなくちゃわからない。
音楽で舞台に立ったことは、高校以来か。合唱をやったり、フォークソングを歌ったり、リコーダーやフルートのアンサンブル、ブラスバンドなど、そこそこやってきた。でも、バンドで出るのははじめてだ。緊張するかな。高校生までの僕なら、間違いなく緊張でがちがちになった。
でも今は違う。いろいろな場所で、観客より、舞台に立つことが多くなった。講師という仕事で。講師で舞台に立っても、有るときからまったく緊張しなくなった。演奏と演奏はまったく違う。でも、舞台に立って人を前にするときの緊張感は、やはり違うだろう。

と言うことで、明日、人前で始めてエレキギターを演奏する。バンドで演奏する。おもしろい経験になりそうだ。

さて、明日です。
出場してきました、バンドコンテスト。
結果？いわゆる順位はもとより狙っていないので、「完走できればいい」レベルなのはお約束として、まあ完走はできた。間奏は、失敗した。
1曲目のミスパラは、ピックワークばかりで、エレキ歴の短い僕にはやはり難易度が高く、弾けなかった?右手と左手はちゃんと動いているのに、ピッキングミスやらタイミングミスやらで、ろくに音が出ない、ところが多く、経験値の低さがもろに出た。
ソロを弾くどころか、バッキングもままならず、ぼろぼろだった。はぁ?。
あ?落ち込むな?。
2曲目、シャングリラは、ストロークプレイが多いので、こちらはなんとか。ソロは、これもかなりぼろぼろだな?。あ?。
録音はできなかったので、聞いてないから、印象より悪いのかいいのか、わからないけど、島村楽器でブログにアップするようなので、聞きたくないなぁ。でも聞かないと。
と言うことで、だめだめだったのですが、やっぱもっと練習しなくちゃね、とやる気を燃やしているのだった。
また機会があれば、出るぞ。
